TodayTech has inked a deal with Western Digital (WD) to distribute its entire range of hard drives.
General manager of marketing and sales, George Skaf, said WD had seen a gap in the market place.
"We are major distributor of components and the lines we offer include LG, Canon, Smart memory, Intel, Hitachi. WD certainly complements those products," he said.
TodayTech joins eSys, Achieva, Synnex and Westan in the distribution stable. The product line-up includes the WD Caviar, Raptor and Raptor X desktop drives, WD RE and RE2 enterprise drives and Scorpio 2.5-inch mobile hard drives.
Skaf forecast the new range could represent $1 million in revenue. He intends focusing on evolving areas such as DIY and the upgrade market as well as vertical areas such as security surveillance and non-PC-related storage applications.
"WD will present a very good opportunity for us to take storage into those areas," Skaf said.
It will bundle the range with Intel CPUs and motherboards. The distributor also plans to provide partners with a loyalty program in conjunction with the vendor's Select WD partner initiative.
"We have yet to define the processes," Skaf said. "WD has many partner programs, such as Select WD, which we are hoping to open to resellers that haven't had the opportunity to see the vendor in action."
WD director of sales South Asia, Margaret Koh, said the company was continuing to evaluate market dynamics and its distribution coverage.
"We came to the conclusion that [TodayTech] would be a good addition to increase our coverage and penetration into the local market," she said. "They give us an additional local touch in areas that other distributors do not represent us in and will provide us with resellers we haven't had the opportunity to sell a WD drive to."
