Victorian-based wireless components distributor, M2M Connectivity, has struck up a partnership with OEM applications vendor, Sierra Wireless.
M2M will distribute the Canadian vendor's range of PCI Express Mini Card modules for 3G/HSDPA.
M2M director, Daryl Chambers, said the products would give developers the ability to build 3G applications.
"We needed to get a 3G product module in the market. We had been working with Telstra, which put us in touch with Sierra Wireless," he said. "This is a bit of a hybrid product because it is more for the PC market rather than the pure development market. I hope it will entice local developers to start working on building applications that use high-speed data networks because they can now actually grasp the controls and operations of 3G/HSDPA."
M2M has about 1000 partners. Chambers would like to find an extra 25 developers that dabbled in the embedded industrial PC market.
"We are also targeting a few box builders but the industrial and embedded computing side is where we see better opportunities," he said.
Partners will be offered technical and sales support as well as a developer's kit that allows them to test out the application.
"It is not the cheapest product out there but it is a good way to get started and build your application knowledge before it's too late," Chambers said.
