ASI Solutions has secured a deal with national buying group, Leading Edge Computers, to sell its first retail device, the Opal DUO.
The entertainment and PC device offers access to the Internet, TV, music, pictures, videos and PC capability.
ASI director, Maree Lowe, said it was the right product and the right time for ASI to tackle the retail market.
"It has been about 18 months worth of work with Intel; they have been supporting us and suggested that we move into this area," she said.
"We have been waiting for the right product. We didn't really want to come into this space and compete against some of the major players with either a mobile or a PC product because that market is fairly saturated."
Lowe said it was imperative that local OEMs tried to pick products that did not directly compete in the same space as multinationals.
The assembler previously provided Leading Edge resellers with installation and maintenance services assistance.
Lowe said she was looking forward to expanding its relationship with the buying group.
"Our preference is to work with companies that can not only deliver on the services side but also provide the ability to handle both data and voice and the Leading Edge stores have got those skills sets," she said. "The digital entertainment market is really all about convergence and this all-in-one device fits in perfectly."
ASI will assemble a team of five staff to oversee its retail operations.
