Sydney distributor, Protac, is ramping up to launch a range of Chimei-built LCD TVs in Q2.
While admitting the LCD market is already crowded with vendors, Protac marketing manager, Patrick Cheng, said LCD TVs were nevertheless a market to focus on, with interest levels peaking among users.
"Since the Vista launch, everybody's talking about having more than one PC at home. And large LCD TVs are part of that," he said. Cheng said the product line would be its first step into the CE market.
"We've never really touched CE product before, but its Chimei product we're talking about so we're willing to give it a try," he said. "Distributors like to carry one or two products that are part of our daily life, whether they are MP3 players, home theatres or LCD televisions, so that's what we'll be doing as well."
In other news, Protac reinforced a commitment to service Chimei LCD monitors formerly sold by Esys. Additional staff had been recruited to cover the workload, Cheung said.
Esys ceased trading with Chimei in November.
