Former Cellnet executive, Darryl Tucker, has signed up with Avnet Partner Solutions as IBM business unit executive. He replaces Jon Gamble who left eight months ago.
Tucker was appointed Cellnet general manager of sales in February, but left in October. He was previously in charge of the distributor's IT Wholesale division. He said the change was an opportunity to further develop his skills. "I am really excited about the technical area of a business and about the value of distribution," Tucker said. "There are volume distributors out there that are big and cumbersome. I wanted to work for a company that could add value." Tucker will be charged with building Avnet's IBM storage and System x business.
"Blade servers are a growing area that we would like to expand into. Customers want technical and specialist people to help them expand their blade area, which is hopefully where our strengths will be," he said. "There seems to be a lack of dealer and customer support in Australia." In the New Year, Tucker plans to put a strategy in place to expand Avnet's presence in Queensland, Victoria and WA. He said he is also looking for more VARs and ISVs that service the SMB market.
