Avnet Partner Solutions has picked up former Ingram Micro product manager, Phil Muffet, as its new networking product manager.
The role will see Muffet working primarily with Alcatel and Enterasys Networks. It could also involve some crossover with other Avnet divisions. "We'll also be working together with Avnet's highend HP and IBM guys to put together solution packages," he said.
According to Muffet, the current market was full of enterprises wanting to ensure their network was VoIP-ready, even if they had yet to commit to a deployment.
He also said many businesses were not attracted to the much-touted gigabit to the desktop infrastructure.
"Gartner recently said gigabit to the desktop wasn't required. With things like WAN acceleration, 10/100 is still all a business needs," Muffet said. Businesses are going to save billions by not going to gigabit to the desktop."
