Storage systems vendor Hitachi Data Systems announces plans to acquire storage management company Archivas

Storage systems vendor Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) will acquire storage management company Archivas, it plans to announce today.

Hitachi has scheduled a conference call for Tuesday morning to discuss its planned acquisition of Archivas, according to a media advisory released Monday. The advisory did not disclose how much Hitachi is paying for Archivas nor other details.

Archivas sells an online storage management product, Archivas Cluster (ArC), which lets customers store, protect, and manage fixed-content data, such as document, e-mail, database, image, and audio files. The product is intended to address corporate governance, legal discovery and compliance regulations, which are driving new business investment in storage technology.

The venture-funded company in Waltham, Massachusetts, was founded in 2003.

HDS, one of several original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners of Archivas, uses Archivas software in its Content Archive Platform.

HDS, in Santa Clara, California, is a subsidiary of Hitachi of Tokyo.

Representatives of Archivas and Hitachi Data Systems did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday.
