Packeteer is offering a free PacketShaper 1400, valued at $3380, to the first 100 resellers who sign up to its new best practice process program.
The vendor's Intelligent Lifecycle Process (ILP) provides partners with a set of methodologies to pinpoint and resolve customers' network performance issues by determining the right WAN optimisation and acceleration technologies to apply, country manager, Bede Hackney, said.
The offer of a free PacketShaper 1400 would give partners all the necessary tools to audit, assess and improve network performance for customers, he said.
The PacketShaper appliance identifies what applications are running on a network, their response times and how much bandwidth they're consuming. It can also be used to accelerate network traffic and prioritise some applications while limiting the bandwidth available to others.
"This program is all about reinforcing best practices, understanding the application and network environment before you look at the available technologies and select a solution for the customer," Hackney said.
Any existing Packeteer partner with at least one certified expert on-staff will be eligible for the deal. Partners who receive the PacketShaper 1400 can resell the device after an interim period of six months.
"Visibility and understanding the network is the foundation of any WAN optimisation project and that needs to be the cornerstone where people start," Hackney said. "Giving away these PacketShapers is a great incentive to our partners because we are supplying them all the tools they need to fulfill the service."
