Cisco integrator, NetStar, has beaten its Nortel competitors and secured an IP communications rollout contract with ninemsn. The deal is worth about $450,000.
NetStar business development manager, Salvatore Barbagallo, said this was one of the largest softphone deployments in one location to date.
NetStar has worked with ninemsn for about three years, supplying support and upgrades for its data network.
"To get the contract we did some demonstrations and evaluations, and showed them how they could grow the system with video conferencing, unified messaging, VoIP and softphone technology," he said.
NetStar will replace a Nortel PABX system with Cisco Softphone IP communicators and Call Manager, which combines voice and data capabilities and unified messaging. The integrator designed, supplied and implemented the Cisco IP solution.
Barbagallo said the client wanted a scalable system offering voice and video capabilities that could run over its networks.
"They were very keen on using softphones. They also needed a system that would help decrease their costs and get rid of multiple systems," Barbagallo said. "We are providing them with ongoing support as well as aiding their growth in new technologies."
