The Internet Industry Association (IIA) has released a set of guidelines designed to help its members reduce mistrust among consumers.
The 'Guide to Responsible Australian Internet Business Practice' includes nine pointers on areas including security, privacy and best practice. IIA members who agree to the guidelines can display a new trust mark on their website
"Consumers still retain a little bit of scepticism about transacting online particularly due to the use of their personal information," IIA chief executive, Peter Coroneos, said. "Australian businesses have the opportunity here to unite around a common industry standard when it comes to winning consumer trust."
While it was early days to suggest how many IIA members would agree to the guidelines, Coroneos said it might provide impetus for new businesses to join.
