Asus introduces Asteio D22 compact PC system

Asus is extending its product offerings to the centre of the living room with the introduction of its first digital home product, the Asteio D22.

The shift to the home also signals a change in its market perception in Australia as a mainly bare bones PC and notebook specialist.

The D22 is also the company's first compact PC system. The product is based on Microsoft's Windows Media Centre and incorporates Intel's Viiv 1.5 platform and HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface).

It is designed to look like a home entertainment device, rather than typical PC, and is intended for users to access and share digital content such TV, movies and music throughout the home.

The unit also contains features such an Electronic Program Guide, and the pausing and recording of High Definition television.

The Asteio D22 will be available at the end of the month for $2999.
