StorageCraft prepares for partner program

Data recovery vendor, StorageCraft, has conducted a series of briefings in Sydney and Melbourne this week to woo new customers and attract more resellers.

Since establishing an office in Sydney in April, the company had sold about 3000 licenses and expected to maintain this rapid growth over the next six months, regional manager, Asia-Pacific, Greg Wyman, said. The key to this strategy was the development of an official partner program by March.

"We are looking for additional partners to complement our existing base," he said. "The most prolific resellers to date are those that are storage-centric because they see the immediate benefits. But the great thing about this technology is that very little skill is required from an organisation to implement and manage it. We will involve our key channel partners to help develop the program and we will never sell direct to the end user."

The storage vendor will also set up offices in either Brisbane or Melbourne in the New Year.

Wyman predicted strong growth locally, pointing to a recent survey conducted at Storage World as proof. The report revealed that although nearly 80 per cent of the 225 people questioned had a disaster recovery plan, nearly 50 per cent were not confident it would effectively meet their disaster recovery objectives. For more than 50 per cent of the respondents, it took over six hours to perform a back up and for nearly 50 per cent of businesses it took more than six hours to recover from a systems failure.

"Most people today back up to tape but tape fails up to 30 per cent of the time and is complex and costly," Wyman claimed. "It is too difficult to implement most of the standard technology available today."

This week, Sydney resellers and customers witnessed the destruction and resurrection of a server, as well as demonstrations on how to protect and back-up critical data.

Also on the agenda is the release of the latest version of StorageCraft's ShadowProtect product, which will begin shipping by January 2007. One new feature will be the ability to restore systems and data from one platform to another.
