Local product aims for international markets

IP networking infrastructure vendors NEC and NetComm have announced the release of a new business-grade IP telephony handset.

The partnership, inked in 2005, involved development and manufacture of the first "fully approved third-party" SIP-compliant digital telephone to operate with NEC's Univerge IP-PBX SV7000 telephone systems.

The new V95 IP telephone paves the way for potential worldwide sales for the local NetComm.

NetComm managing director David Stewart said NEC is a market leader in telephony, and with the introduction of the Univerge IP-PBX range it was looking for a business-grade telephone that could support "the many sophisticated functions".

"The NetComm product customization division was commissioned to build the V95 for NEC to deliver a standardized product on the SIP platform and to capitalize on the powerful features in the Univerge."

Evaluation units of the V95 have also been sent to "several other countries" where NEC operates to review the phone's compatibility in overseas markets.

Locally, enterprises including Vic Rail, the University of Queensland and 10 other sites in Australia have started using the V95, according to NetComm.

NetComm also confirmed today that production of the new phone has commenced.

"Partnering with NEC Business Solutions gives the NetComm V95 huge potential both locally and internationally [and] we have ensured a scalable production facility to accommodate high-level demand," Stewart said.
