Emerson Network Power Signs APC Product Manager Peter Simon

Sydney, Australia (November 27, 2006) – Emerson Network Power, a division of Emerson and the global leader in enabling ‘Business-Critical Continuity’, has further strengthened its team in Australia with the appointment of former APC Product Manager Peter Simon as Business Development Manager, IT Solutions, Emerson Network Power, Asia Pacific.

Simon will work closely with Emerson’s channel and enterprise teams in Australia and South-East Asia to help them develop power and cooling solutions that move at the speed of business.

“In a globally networked environment the pace of business is accelerating, which puts increased pressure on IT managers and systems to support rapid business decisions,” says Simon. “This puts a fair bit of stress on IT systems, forcing them to continually grow and evolve to supply the demand. What doesn’t evolve as quickly is the power and cooling infrastructure that is fundamental to ensuring that everything is up and running.”

“Data networking infrastructure is becoming the weakest link, partly because traditionally it’s been very difficult to manage remotely,” says Simon. “It’s not unheard of for a multinational organisation to invest in a multi-million dollar IP telephony solution only for the system to go down because of a failed backup battery or insufficient cooling. What’s needed is a way to manage the infrastructure across the WAN; and the way you do that is with simple IP monitoring software that presents your protection devices as if they were just another network element.”

Simon started his IT career 20 years ago with IBM as a mainframe engineer, moving on to roles with Dow Jones as a financial systems consultant, and Australian software company Integrated Research as a product manager for mission-critical system management software. For the past few years Simon has worked as Asia Pacific product manager for IP convergence with power protection company APC.

“What impresses me about Emerson is the sheer breadth of solutions they have for everything from the smallest desktop UPS to the largest data centre cooling and power protection systems,” he says. “Emerson has been protecting the world’s largest mission critical data centres for more than 40 years and uses the same technology in its enterprise and channel products that today communicate across IP networks.

“Our customers want peace of mind. They absolutely require data centre availability over the WAN; downtime is not an option. It’s an exciting challenge and I look forward to helping Emerson Network and its customers achieve.”

Simon holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Sydney.
