Victorian distributor, Pixel IT, is expecting to double its storage business thanks to a recent agreement between its client, Northern, and Network Appliance.
Swedish-based Northern recently announced it is extending its Windows-only storage resource management product, Northern Storage Suite, to NetApp devices. NetApp's hardware runs on a homegrown version of Unix.
Pixel IT managing director, Graeme Taylor, said distributing Northern's products account for between 10 - 15 per cent of the company's business. Almost half of its revenue is derived from sales of Diskeeper, a server defragging tool.
He said the opportunity to sell to NetApp customers could increase that by 100 per cent given the vendor's large Australian install base.
Pixel IT is planning to sit down with NetApp next week to demonstrate how the product works before both companies take the product to the vendor's channel.
Taylor said discussions were still in the early stages but claimed providing storage management software would add value to NetApp's resellers.
"It's one thing to sell the product [storage device], but it is even better to sell the tools to manage that product effectively," he said.
Northern Storage Suite is implemented in many government departments, local councils and schools.
