Toshiba launches value-packed Tecra A2 series notebooks for small business

Combination of features, performance and price provides resellers with a new benchmark in desktop replacement notebooks

Sydney, 16 June 2004 – Australia’s mobile computing leader, Toshiba (Australia) Pty. Limited, Information Systems Division (ISD) today introduced the Tecra A2, a new value notebook series for small to medium sized businesses (SMB). With extended battery life, high performance processing power and integrated SuperMulti DVD drives, the Tecra A2 offers the latest technology at exceptional value. The Tecra A2 series will have a regular product refresh so Toshiba resellers will always be able to offer the latest technology at prices designed for small business.

Features and software bundled for best value offering

The Tecra A2’s combination of features and price makes it a compelling product for channel partners that service value-conscious business buyers. Toshiba is offering the Tecra A2 with three optional bundle packages – a choice of various software and peripherals including Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional, Microsoft Office OneNote®, MYOB BusinessBasics and Targus accessories, so resellers may present SMBs with a business-ready machine with more than $800 in additional value. The stylish metallic silver notebook also comes with Toshiba’s high-level service and international warranty cover as standard, providing peace-of-mind for buyers.

“The Tecra A2 reconfirms Toshiba’s commitment to the channel, and offers great scope for those resellers that service SMB users, who generally do not have the support of an in-house IT division,” said Matt Codrington, Product Marketing Manager, Toshiba ISD.

"With the great combination of features and performance of the Tecra A2, we have delivered a notebook that allows resellers to remain one step ahead of the changing needs of small business customers. The Tecra A2 series replaces our popular Satellite A10 model, offering the price-performance options of the Tecra business series to the Satellite’s traditional SMB and SOHO market,” he said.

Performance, productivity and flexibility for the ultimate desktop replacement

Featuring the latest Mobile Intel® Pentium® M or Intel® Celeron® M processor and with a standard battery life of up to 4.2 hours, all four Tecra A2 models deliver high levels of performance and productivity for business owners. The notebook also comes with advanced docking capability, with an optional port replicator, allowing users to easily move between the office and external work environments. With the full range of expansion and connectivity features including a PC Card slot, two USB 2.0 ports, an international V.90 modem and a 10/100 Mbit Ethernet LAN port and 802.11b/g on three of the four models, the Tecra A2 allows SMB users to be as flexible as their business day requires.

Multimedia first aids versatility

The Tecra A2 series now puts Toshiba ahead of the competition with its superior entry-level multimedia capability. There’s a CDW/DVD option or DVD-R/-RW, which allows users to create DVD recordings that are compatible with most DVD players currently on the market. It is also one of the first notebooks available with a DVD SuperMulti - a -multi- format technology with DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW/RAM capability. The inclusion of either an ultra-sharp XGA screen at 15” or 14.1” size, Intel® GM graphics and Toshiba Bass Enhanced Sound further optimises the user’s multimedia experience.

Freedom of wireless now available to all

With Intel 802.11b/g offered on selected Tecra A2 models, the new line signals the mainstream introduction of wireless to this market. Toshiba’s unique ConfigFree™ software comes pre-installed with the Tecra A2 to simplify automatic connection to multiple wired and wireless network profiles for users who move between various work locations.

“The rise in flexible working and the greater number of small businesses is driving the adoption of desktop replacement PCs and users are demanding increasingly higher levels of performance and features from these notebooks to enhance business productivity,” said Mr Codrington.

Pricing and availability
