Software management vendor, Smartpath, has launched a training program to educate resellers about software asset management (SAM) services.
General manager, Philip Hare, said there was a general lack of understanding in the channel of what SAM is and how it could be beneficial for end-users in terms of cost savings and risk reduction.
"There was a gap in the market and there was no real offering for practical training services to help companies better understand SAM," he said. "Software compliance is an issue that is not going to go away. Vendors are getting more active in ensuring companies are using the software in accordance with the terms and conditions."
Hare said the training workshops were open to all resellers, particularly those who wanted to get a head start in the software licensing market. The first session kicks off on November 9 in Sydney followed by Melbourne on November 15.
"Next year we will scale that up and offer the same workshops but we will also include Qld and WA," he said. "There is still a long way to go; the program is really the thin end of the wedge and from there we hope to give resellers enough information and insight into the SAM market."
