Phoenix Toner has picked up distribution rights to Fujitsu's dot matrix and thermal point-of-sale printers.
"Dot matrix isn't a growing market - it has hit a plateau - but it's still very popular in warehouses, travel agents and other locations that rely on multipart documents," general manager, Don Bentley, said. The distributor has carried Fujitsu consumables for 14 years.
Since deciding to offer hardware alongside its consumable lines about 12 months ago, Phoenix has scored printer deals with HP, Kyocera and Lexmark.
Fujitsu channel manager, Bruce McLean, said Phoenix and another recent addition to the distribution ranks, Multimedia Technology, were proving to be enthusiastic partners. Fujitsu stopped working with Ingram Micro earlier this year because the broad-based distributor carries so many other printer brands.
McLean said the first initiative of the Phoenix partnership would be a Dead or Alive campaign designed to convince users to trade old dot matrix printer for a $50 rebate off a new model. Bentley said that campaign would resonate well because the majority of dot matrix business was upgrades from older models.
