Simms International has become the first local distributor for Olympus Imaging Australia's family of xD memory cards.
The appointment is part of an effort to branch into the lucrative corporate and government markets, Olympus Imaging product manager, Austin Kazami, said. The vendor's traditional stronghold has been the retail market. Figures from GfK Research claim it holds around 67 per cent of the retail xD market.
Simms managing director, Danny Moore, said the integration of Olympus into its mix of products completed its product suite.
"Up to now, we've had Kingston covering every memory hole except for Memory Stick and xD," he said.
Simms also distributes Sony's Memory Stick. Moore said the distributor had dabbled in the past with xD cards from Fuji, but felt the vendor's data media offerings were stronger than its digital media range.
"This is a new relationship and we're obviously just starting to feel things out on how we will support each other," he said.
Olympus will continue to fulfill its retail relationships directly.
