VERITAS Achieves “Leaders” Position in Both Enterprise Backup/Restore and SAN Management Software Magic Quadrants

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – June 22, 2004 – VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), today announced that it is positioned in the coveted “leaders” quadrant of both the Gartner Enterprise Backup/Restore and SAN Management Software Magic Quadrant reports.

The Gartner Magic Quadrants evaluate vendors in specific markets by assessing each company’s technology, service, support, features, functionality and viability. Companies are positioned in the quadrant based on their vision and ability to execute on that vision. Gartner classifies companies as “leaders” if they are performing well, have a clear vision of market direction, and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.

The Enterprise Backup/Restore Magic Quadrant report reflects VERITAS Software’s longstanding leadership position with its VERITAS NetBackup™ software. Recent enhancements to VERITAS NetBackup software include synthetic backup capabilities, integration with data lifecycle management, faster disk-based backup, and desktop and laptop data protection capabilities. The company also released VERITAS NetBackup Server™ in February 2004; a cost-effective and comprehensive heterogeneous backup and recovery solution targeted for mid-size organizations, remote offices and IT workgroups.
VERITAS Software is also positioned as a leader in the SAN Management Magic Quadrant. The position is primarily based on the success of VERITAS SANPoint Control™ software and takes into consideration the recently announced VERITAS CommandCentral™ Storage software that consolidates VERITAS’ industry-leading heterogeneous SAN management software (VERITAS SANPoint Control) and traditional storage resource management (VERITAS Storage Reporter™) software into a single solution. VERITAS CommandCentral Storage software seamlessly spans both online and offline components providing a comprehensive view of storage environments. To view the full report, please visit:

The Magic Quadrant is copyrighted 2004 by Gartner, Inc. and is reused with permission, which permission should not be deemed to be an endorsement of any company or product depicted in the quadrant. The Magic Quadrant is Gartner, Inc.’s opinion and is an analytical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It measures vendors against Gartner defined criteria for a marketplace. The positioning of vendors within a Magic Quadrant is based on the complex interplay of many factors. Gartner does not advise enterprises to select only those firms in the “Leaders” quadrant. In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche Player quadrants may be the right matches for an enterprise's requirements. Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than a Magic Quadrant.
