Niche security distributor, Unixpac, has become the first local distributor for network security products from Insightix.
Unixpac managing director, Tom Piotrowski, said it had been looking to pick up a software product tackling Network Access Control (NAC).
"This [Insightix] software allows you to do NAC in tandem with patch management," he said. "The whole idea is to see and monitor systems on the network in real-time, check their health, quarantine them, and then patch and fix them to bring back onto the network."
The software took a different approach to the comparative NAC solution from Cisco, which was based around hardware, Piotrowski said.
"Cisco's proposal to deal with the issue is through an infrastructure replacement process, which is cumbersome and expensive," he said. "We wanted an alternative software solution available at a lower cost."
According to Piotrowski, the Insightix software was non-intrusive, making it easier to integrate into a customer's existing network environment. The software costs from $2000 to install, depending on the size of the organisation, and works in both Windows and Linux environments.
Unixpac had already built up a systems integration channel for patch management using products from vendor partner, Shavlik. Piotrowski said it would now use that base to on-sell Insightix products. Resellers include Corporate Express, Kaz and Volante.
He highlighted banking and finance, government and utilities companies as target customers.
The distributor also planned to provide training certification for potential resellers in conjunction with Insightix staff.
