NETGEAR slashes home phone bill with easiest-to-use VoIP product on market

<p>Sydney, Australia (September 11, 2006) – NETGEAR (Nasdaq: NTGR) has launched a product that makes it easy for the everyday consumers to make cheaper phone calls using VoIP (Voice-over-IP) technology and their home computer.</p>
<p>This industry-first gateway from NETGEAR takes minutes to install and is combined with an ADSL2+ modem for a fast Internet connection to enable the same voice quality as a normal phone call. The gateway is also combined with a wireless router that allows users to roam around the home with their handset while making calls.</p>
<p>The gateway has an in-built firewall to protect home networks from Internet nasties and is configurable for VoIP service providers engin, Broadband Phone and MyNetFone, giving users the benefit of choosing a provider which best suits their needs.</p>

<p>The speed of the gateway enables consumers to download large files with ease and conduct a videoconference, as well as play and distribute high-definition digital movies, photos and MP3s instantly.</p>
<p>The DG834GV incorporates VoIP, an ADSL2+ modem, router, 10/100 wired LAN switch, 802.11g wireless access point and SPI double firewall, giving users an all-in-one integrated voice gateway.</p>

<p>- A PSTN/FXO port, which enables fallback to a regular phone line for emergency calling or in the instance of network outages or power failures.</p>

<p>- Network Address Translation (NAT), shielding networked devices from intruders and potential attacks; and Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and Denial of Service (DoS) attack prevention, to avert possible threats by scanning all incoming traffic.</p>
<p>- Powerful WEP and WPA encryption, to protect users from eavesdroppers, and MAC Address Control to prevent unauthorised access to the wireless network.</p>
