NETGEAR first to market again with draft-n ADSL2+ modem gateway

Gateway delivers new range of capabilities to bandwidth-thirsty consumers

Sydney, Australia (September 11, 2006) – NETGEAR (Nasdaq: NTGR) has launched a wireless modem gateway based on the draft-802.11n wireless standard to deliver high-speed broadband wireless networking to the home and small office.

The DG834N RangeMax NEXT Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Gateway provides 15 times faster and 10 times more wireless coverage than the 802.11g standard, and will transfer a 6MB MP3 in seconds and download a 1GB movie in minutes.

The DG834N incorporates advanced MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) technology, which eliminates dead spots and ensures optimal performance. The gateway is compatible with all legacy 802.11b and 802.11g wireless products.

“NETGEAR’s pre-eminent position in the Australian networking market is due to the flexibility, ease-of-use and competitive pricing of its product range. NETGEAR closely monitors the latest technological developments and aims to create products that respond to changing networking demands,” said Ian McLean, NETGEAR Asia Pacific vice president.

“The RangeMax NEXT line, based on the draft-n standard, is another example of NETGEAR’s market leadership. NETGEAR is working to ensure every firmware update makes the pre-n RangeMax NEXT product line better and smarter.

“Despite recent hype, there are no greater issues with pre-N products than there were with 802.11g products when first released,” concluded McLean.

The RangeMax NEXT Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Gateway interoperates at 270Mbps with other products powered with Intensi-fi.

The Gateway creates and maintains a stable connection through the use of Steady-Stream technology and enough bandwidth to surf the Internet, download and stream MP3s, make Internet phone calls, store and share files wirelessly, maintain high-definition online gaming and stream high-definition videos -- simultaneously, at any distance or location in the home or small office.

NETGEAR’s Smart Wizard simplifies setup by automatically detecting and configuring the router for virtually all ISP connections. Smart Wizard also enables configuration of WEP, WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK WiFi Security. The DG834N includes a double firewall -- Network Address Translation (NAT) to hide PCs and files from outsiders, and a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall to deny outside requests for personal information. Exposed Host (DMZ) supports secure gaming.

The DG834N RangeMax NEXT Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Gateway:
- Facilitates broadband Internet sharing.
- Provides faster connections for multiple users.
- Enables consistent speeds for streaming and transferring files.
- Supports high definition gaming, downloading and video streaming simultaneously.
- Is capable of downloading data at 24 Mbps.

The NETGEAR DG834N RangeMax NEXT Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Gateway (RRP $399) is now available from NETGEAR’s value-added resellers. Backed by 24x7 technical support, it comes with a NETGEAR two-year warranty. Increased technical support is also available with NETGEAR's advanced warranty.
