Citrix Extends Access Platform Strategy to Enable the Best Access Experience for Web-Based Applications

SYDNEY, Australia — 19 September 2006 — Citrix Systems, Inc., the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, today launched Citrix NetScaler, a high-performance application networking appliance in Australia.

Acquired in 2005 by Citrix Systems, NetScaler initially rose to prominence in the internet market delivering technology to companies including Google, Amazon, MSN and Ticketmaster.

Today, Citrix estimates that 75 percent of all internet users go through a NetScaler system each day.

“We are excited to be bringing NetScaler to Australia,” said Karl Liebman, area vice president, Australia and New Zealand, Citrix Systems. “With Australia having the eighth highest internet penetration rate in the world, we believe that NetScaler’s integrated technologies will further enhance this already established market.”

“NetScaler extends our best access experience for the entire range of Web-based applications including enterprise, browser-based, XML Web services and others. And with NetScaler accelerators, Citrix customers can significantly optimise their entire set of legacy, client/server or applications delivered on our Presentation Server system.”

The NetScaler product range includes the NetScaler Application Switch (Enterprise and Standard Editions) and NetScaler Application Accelerator. Unlike traditional networking products that focus on the underlying connectivity between systems and networks, application networking solutions provide application layer intelligence. This means that Citrix NetScaler will automatically choose the best possible access experience based on a user’s role, device, network and location, as well as the specific application or service being accessed.

Delivering secure Web applications is particularly challenging because Web vulnerabilities are generally easy to exploit and attacks cannot be detected by traditional security products. However there is still a trend among businesses to centralise servers and deploy Web-enabled intranet or internet applications to reduce costs. This has resulted in a strong demand for solutions that improve the performance, security and availability of these applications.

“The Citrix NetScaler solution is ideally suited to meet this demand,” said Mr Liebman. “By tightly integrating advanced traffic management capabilities with application acceleration and security technology into a single easy-to-deploy network appliance, Citrix NetScaler can replace a number of point solutions, thus simplifying overall network infrastructures and reducing operational costs.”

As part of Citrix’s Application Networking Group (ANG), three people will be locally responsible for educating Citrix’s core application networking markets. Director of the ANG for the Pacific region Les Howarth will work closely with lead systems engineer Krish Kumar and business development manager Wayne McAuliffe to tailor NetScaler-based access solutions to suit customer needs.
