This year promises to be best yet with new design and layout

SYDNEY, Australia – 7 September 2006 – The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries today announced the launch of the 2006 Australian International Motor Show website - www.australianmotorshow.com.

The newly-enhanced website provides car enthusiasts with a 24-hour cyber-window into the show and the ability to preview motor vehicles in the lead-up to the show.

“We are expecting this year to be the best site yet,” said Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries chief executive Peter Sturrock. “It has a fresh look after undergoing a comprehensive rebuild and gives readers a fantastic insight into this year’s event.”

“As the only motor show in Australia providing live web-casting of presentations, we are leading the way in interactive innovation.”

In 2003 the Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) became the first major automotive show in the world to conduct a live webcast of its press day.

This year’s live online broadcast will kick off on Industry Day, Thursday 26 October 2006.

There will be an abundance of new model presentations, product reviews, key interviews with industry leaders and expert commentary on the website.

“As Australia’s national motor show, it’s appropriate that the event be broadcast via the internet around Australia and the world, thereby ensuring that those who can’t make it to Sydney are able to experience some of the excitement of actually being there,” said Peter Sturrock.

General Manager of CARSguide.com.au Tony Burrett said traffic to the AIMS site had grown by more than 60 per cent year-on-year over the last three years, making it the sixth most popular automotive website in Australia.

“Last year alone, the number of views of the live webcast increased by more than 180 per cent,” he said.

“We are expecting to again build on our previous success as we deliver a site that leads the industry, and captures the buzz the motor show creates.”

Website visitors can investigate the multiple facets of the show including downloadable screensavers and images. The latest show news and practical information, such as locations for specific vehicle manufacturer stands, car parking and toilets, will also feature on the site.

The key areas of the newly designed website are:

Stars of the show – feature stories on new launches, fast cars and scooter exhibits.

Latest news and views – stories posted daily by some of Australia’s leading motoring journalists providing insight and analysis of the show as well as an online visitors’ voting poll.

At the show – photo gallery of enhanced images, video highlights of the show and selected product demos, fashion parade highlights and 4WD track information, classic cars and exhibitor links.

Visitor information – plan your visit to the show with accommodation and transport, information on dates and times, transport options and admission charges. A new feature this year is an interactive site map providing the location of and information about every exhibitor.

Online ticketing – purchase tickets direct online and be in the draw to win one of five “Gold Packages” from Red Balloon Days, valued at $1000 each.

The Australian International Motor Show is open to the public at 5pm on October 26, and opens every day and night until 5 November. Details of dates, times and ticket prices are available on the website.
