Altech has added order tracking functionality to its online ordering system.
The distributor's national sales manager, Kevin Hartin, said the new feature would allow resellers to keep an eye on the status of orders - updated at 10 minute intervals - in a way that had previously been impossible.
"Previously, an order would be placed and then it would disappear from the website," he said. "This new feature shows three months of history and the exact status of an order."
Hartin said the creation of a tracking facility meant resellers didn't have to rely on calling an account manager within business hours and asking them to search for the information, particularly prior to a pick-up.
"A lot of smaller resellers need to know their order is ready before they drop by the warehouse to pick it up," he said. "Those small guys are our bread and butter, and with a lot of distributors in this area, they will often place orders before driving around in a big loop."
Hartin said order tracking was the first of many enhancements being made to the site during the next year.
"We get a lot of feedback from resellers on what they like and don't like about the site," he said. "We've been working on this for 12 months and we've got a document that runs to about 100 pages detailing all the new features we want to include."
About 60 per cent of all Altech orders are now done online, he said.
