Woodside outgrows HP

Woodside Petroleum is looking for a significant improvement in service from a simpler, selective outsourcing arrangement rather than a complete outsourcing deal, a key factor in the move from Hewlett-Packard (HP) to Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).

A spokesperson for Woodside said the relationship with CSC is a simpler, selective outsourcing model with services taken on the basis of previously agreed staffing levels.

Woodside has already taken control of the internal Unix environment and hardware and decided software will be procured directly from vendors or resellers. Staffing levels at Woodside will not be impacted during the transition; however, the impact on staffing numbers at CSC and HP is yet to be determined.

"We believe the outsourcing model itself and the transition to CSC will minimize the impact on Woodside," the spokesperson said.

"Despite a large amount of work over the past two years by both organizations (HP and Woodside), the contract has not adequately supported the rapid growth of Woodside's business and will not deliver the level of service we now require. Woodside and HP worked on a new service delivery model over the past six months, but were unable to reach a final agreement.

"As a result, Woodside selected CSC to provide these outsourced services for the next 12 months. Woodside and HP have mutually agreed to disengage from the July 2004 agreement though HP will continue to provide HP technology and associated financial services. We will complete the transition from HP to CSC by 31 August, 2006."

Woodside initially signed a three-year contract with HP for IT services and support as well as provision of IT hardware and software bundled with support and service charges. This contract was cut short by one year.
