Lako Pacific is planning to release a host of digital products including portable media players, DVRs and media servers under its new Kaiser Bass brand.
CEO, Evan Kourambas, said branching into the consumer electronics sector was a natural progression for the company.
"It is an exciting new market for us. We hope to open up some new channels but we are definitely offering the products to our existing IT and camera store clients," he said. "We have already established export markets to Hong Kong and New Zealand."
Kaiser Bass will make its entrance into the market on September 15 with digital photo frames - a 5.6-inch model priced at $299 and an 8-inch version retailing for $399. More products are expected in the next six months.
Kourambas said creating awareness and communicating brand value had been difficult.
"We have spent a substantial amount of time and money researching market need," he said. "Kaiser Baas will address the increasing appetite for digital convergence products."
Eugene Wong has stepped down as Lako marketing manager to head up Kaiser Baas as brand manager. The distributor is currently searching for a replacement.
