Sage drops GL following dispute

The future of Sydney-based distributor, GL Computing, is in doubt after its relationship with Sage CRM was terminated. The vendor's range includes ACT! for Notes and ACT! for Web.

GL owner, Mike Lazarus, said financial and marketing disputes soured the relationship.

"Personal differences made it impossible to get along and things just deteriorated as a result of that," he said. "I'm not sure whether we [GL] will continue to operate."

Sage CRM managing director, Ross Stange, said the termination was a difficult decision because GL had a long-standing relationship with the product. While only an official distributor for the past 12 months, it had been affiliated since 1987.

"We have made a number of attempts to work with GL to transform passion for the product into a thriving and profitable business for them," he said. "Unfortunately, that has not eventuated despite the efforts we made."

Lazarus said the offers that were presented by Sage would have hurt his company.

"From our point of view, the promotional rebates were the last straw," he said. "It cost us money to be a distributor for Sage."

While considering the future of the business, Lazarus said GL would continue to distribute ACT! add-on products including HandHeld Contact and an ACT! link for Skype.

Remaining Sage distributors are Ingram Micro, Scholastic and Lectronic.
