Multimedia Technology (MMT) has broadened its optical drive line-up, signing a new distribution partnership with Japanese vendor, Plextor.
Purchasing manager, Mike Muscat, said the Melbourne-based distributor had been approached by the vendor.
The range was very high-end, he said, and would not clash with other brands in the MMT stable.
"We are associated with Pioneer, Sony and BenQ drives so [Plextor] thought it would be a natural fit," Muscat said. "Plextor drives are regarded as more of an industrial product because they are more robust and reliable.
"They carry a retail price tag nearly 50 per cent higher than other drives and are usually faster to market with new technology."
MMT will stock the whole Plextor range of optical drives -- including the PX-716UFL and PX-760 series -- as well as a digital video converter.
Systems integrators and builders that duplicate mass numbers of DVD media are the distributor's main targets. Muscat is also interested in bringing on more resellers.
