An increase in the number of VoIP service providers has led telecommunications research outfit, Market Clarity, to establish a national online directory. The Aussie VoIP List aims to help users find the right provider.
The directory has already proved to be popular, with over 1,500 people viewing the list on its first day of going live a little over a week ago.
CEO, Shara Evans, saw a need for education, particularly in the SMB market where many potential users were struggling to understand different types of VoIP services.
The directory, sponsored by ISPhone and Linksys, lists just over 200 VoIP service providers, provides website links and details the types of service they offer.
"Potential customers can look at plans and compare value propositions from one central place," Evans said. "This emerging market is not very well understood and even when people do understand it they don't know who the providers are because many of them are so new."
According to Evans, hardware vendors can also use the directory to find service providers willing to resell DSL modems or IP phones.
"This market is going to skyrocket," she said. "Within the next couple of years it will be unusual to find an ISP that does not offer a VoIP service."
