IP telephony wholesaler, iVox, has compiled a free guide for channel partners in an attempt to demystify VoIP.
The PDF - Everything you wanted to know about VoIP ... but didn't know who to ask - is designed to tackle common misconceptions about what the technology delivers.
iVox CEO, Romain Bonjean, said the information was targeted at the SMB market, which had demonstrated great confusion over the benefits of an IP-based telephony network.
He highlighted the cost of calls as one point that had been overrated. While VoIP could deliver cheaper call rates, customers needed to be made more aware of features and quality of services.
"A lot of people just think about getting cheap phone calls and the plug-and-play over the Internet aspect of VoIP," Bonjean said. "We wanted to emphasise the quality of IP through convergent communications, economies of scale and the increase in productivity it offers."
For example, businesses with a mobile workforce could use the technology to setup remote login with entire user profile on the phone and desktop simultaneously.
The iVox guide is broken down into common questions asked by potential customers, including the distinction between various VoIP services, security and quality and number portability.
It also explains what equipment home and business customers need to have in order to use VoIP.
Bonjean said the information was based on feedback from resellers.
