Apple sales led the way as Express Online smashed its monthly record in May.
The Web-based distributor beat its previous best month, set back in November, by 24 per cent. It sold almost three times as much as it did in May last year, which was just before it signed with Apple.
General manager, Alison McQuarrie, said it had also seen good growth from several of its other vendors including LaCie, Acer, Canon and Belkin. Last month, Express Online landed an exclusive contract with The Good Guys to supply the retail chain with Apple stock.
"This is our first large retail customer for Apple," McQuarrie said. "We took a massive first order and it isn't going to be a one-off because they are projecting that as a monthly average."
Now that Apple is using Intel CPUs, McQuarrie said the distributor had started signing up new Authorised Solution Sellers for the vendor that had never sold its products before. It had added 80 of these partners in the past year, she said, and was now trying to eat into the traditional PC market.
Express Online had hoped to sign up another major systems vendor during the current financial year but had been unable to do so. However, McQuarrie said discussions were now underway with at least one multinational.
"Our Apple sales were doubling every month and all our resources were being used. We just weren't able to focus on looking for a new systems vendor," she said. "But that will definitely be the focus for the next six months. We need another Apple."
