Victorian distributor, Westan, has terminated a three-year relationship with Vertical Technology in favour of a new partnership struck with Vonexus. Both vendors make IP-PBX products.
Managing director, Victor Aghtan, decided to terminate the Vertical relationship after finding it difficult to gain local support from the US-based vendor.
"Local support is very important to us. Vonexus has support staff here, which Vertical doesn't. That made it a bit difficult to communicate with them," he said. "Vonexus offers a similar range and the opportunity to switch came at the right time because it was looking for a national distributor.
"The Vonexus suite also includes hardware such as handsets, whereas with TeleVantage we had to look for handsets to match."
Aghtan is interested in appointing more resellers for the IP-PBX range, preferably ones that have had some telecommunications experience and a focus on the SMB market. Partners will be provided with training from Vonexus parent company, Interactive Intelligence.
"It's a different type of reseller to our usual IT partners. That is not to say we will exclude them but I don't think many of them have that type of interest or the skill set to take on this kind of product," Aghtan said.
Interactive Intelligence A/NZ territory manager, Brendan Maree, said Vonexus was set up about 18 months ago to address the SMB market with IP-PBX products.
He said it was a big plus to be appointed by Westan because it had a good understanding of the market.
"We've had a hard look at Westan. They will take us into more verticals such as finance and accounting," he said.
