Check Point Software Technologies has continued the reorganisation of its channel with the announcement of niche security distributor, Firewall Systems, as the sole supplier for its new SMB-focused product line.
The security vendor's A/NZ country manager, Scott McKinnel, said the Safe@Office range of firewall and VPN appliances had been previously distributed through both LAN Systems and Express Data. When it axed Express Data in February, however, it had already been in discussions with Firewall Systems regarding the Safe@ products.
"We just wanted to consolidate the range with one distributor," McKinnel said. "LAN Systems covers our high-end products while Firewall Systems gets to concentrate on the SMB market."
The appeal of placing its SMB product line with Firewall Systems came via the distributors desire to create managed services around security products, McKinnel said.
Firewall Systems has built Firewatch for Safe@ which gives resellers the ability to service users of the Safe@ hardware with in-depth information on traffic, firewall activity and antivirus activity.
"The Safe@ device is very good and can look after itself at some levels, but it's ultimately passive and the average user doesn't know what changes you need to make to keep it that way," Firewall Systems marketing director, Nick Verykios, said. "The Safe@ boxes have been around for a while, but with our service on top it's now a comprehensive solution."
McKinnel said the Firewatch service would appeal to SMBs with concerns about security but without the in-house IT resources of larger organisations.
