ChannelWorx will carry Avaya IP Office products as it looks to help resellers add greater value to the network. The distributorship is effective August 1.
The voice vendor's regional marketing director, Andy Hurt, said the appointment reflected growing demand for converged data and telephony infrastructures.
Avaya has worked with voice-focused distributor, IPL, for five years but needed a partner to open up the data channel. ChannelWorx had been a perfect fit, he said, because it also carried products from global Avaya partner, Juniper.
"We need reach into converged SMB networks and users are looking for integrators that understand the proposition," Hurt said. "There is a very close relationship between resellers and users in that space, which we want to embrace.
"It's about branching out into physical applications like mobility. WAN and LAN infrastructure complements telephony."
While open to voice resellers that wanted to get into the data business, ChannelWorx managing director, Scott Lidgett, said the distributor would concentrate on skilling up existing partners.
"Customers need to give thought to security and bandwidth issues," ChannelWorx managing director, Scott Lidgett, said. "Our network of resellers is used to dealing with these concerns and they are eager to find new layers they can add to the network.
"We have been talking about converged networks for five years and they have become something of a cliche. But the products are now reliable and there's plenty of affordable bandwidth available."
