Anixter has signed up to carry Sony cameras and Dedicated Micros digital video recorders (DVRs). The partnerships are in line with its desire to move further into the IP solutions market, with a particular interest in security.
Newly appointed Anixter regional security manager, Steve Anson, said the company was now well positioned in the local IP security market. Its US parent already offered such solutions.
"We have IP infrastructure skills to support physical security applications in a networking environment," he said. "We have leveraged global relationships to sign these distribution agreements."
Anson said the vendor-cum-distributor was already working on a number of deals using Sony and Dedicated Micro equipment. He would not be drawn on specifics.
"Typically, the solutions fit into campus-type environments for surveillance such as hospitals, manufacturing, education and corporates," he said. "It's not just about the bad guy. Users can also use the hardware with specialised software to monitor the people in any given area."
Anixter IP security solutions will be sold through channel partners, with the company looking for new partners.
"The best fit will be existing network integrators who fully understand implementation of networking hardware," Anson said. "We are keen to sign up people familiar with the installation and conditioning of IP hardware who have a business interest in security."
