Sun builds up western force

Sun Microsystems has appointed ex-Volante West Australian state manager, David LaSpina, to the newly-created role of commercial manager for the western region.

His primary task would be to recruit and develop partners in WA, SA and the NT, Sun Microsystems regional manager for the western region, Rob Eskinazi, said.

"David is a good catch for me as we continue towards our goal of pushing everything 100 per cent through the channel," he said. "He brings a tremendous amount of experience to grow the channel even further."

According to Eskinazi, Sun's channel in the west currently sits around 80 per cent indirect sales.

He claimed this figure would reach 100 per cent across the board in another 24 months.

The fulfillment side of its channel alone could hit 100 per cent inside 12 months, Eskinazi said.

"David will be spending a lot of his time and effort working with key partners like Alphawest, Fujitsu and Kaz because they're so strong in server and storage management," he said. "Aside from that, there's a very strong push from SIs on software like Identity Management and Information Lifecycle Management."

LaSpina has more than 20 years experience in the IT industry. He had been with Volante for three years prior to joining Sun.
