Reseller powerhouse Volante last week partially lifted the veil of secrecy surrounding its new online service and delivery system know as Customer Connect, due to emerge from beta testing this week, ARN has learned.
According to Wayne Morris, group managing director at Volante, the system is the result of 12 months exhaustive research, testing and consultation with key business partners to develop an online system suitable to Australia.
Volante is now one of only two local IT channel players to demonstrate bona fide commitment to online business. The other is GECITS - the IT division of General Electric.
The Volante system is expected to connect the company to between 200 and 300 of its business customers and partners in Australia, providing a valuable tool for accessing status of orders, pricing, customer purchase histories and other types of data for those organisations.
Volante officials were nervous about disclosing any technical details of the Customer Connect system, and were reticent about the amount of money invested in it; however, they did confirm that it was "considerable".
Morris said the idea for an online system was conceived before PC Express and State Computer merged last year to eventually form Volante two months ago.
At that time Volante said the new company was destined to become the number one reseller in Australia - an aim that would depend on its success in developing a powerful strategy for online business.
Morris said that the system will be most effective in reducing the cost of doing business for itself and its partners by freeing up time normally wasted in "garden variety" administration.
"We are hoping to create cost savings at both ends," he said.
He added that in future, the online service and delivery model will be seen as much more than a means to competitive advantage, and will have a profound effect on retail and business to business relationships.
"It will become a competitive must," he said.
Morris added that the system would be particularly effective in the retail sector, and hinted that Volante has serious plans to address that market.
