Packeteer® Strengthens Its Leadership In Application-Level Monitoring And Reporting With ReportCenter 3.0

~ ReportCenter 3.0 provides greater insight into performance of VoIP and MPLS services ~

MELBOURNE, Australia -- June 30, 2004 -- Packeteer®, Inc. (NASDAQ: PKTR), the pioneer and leading provider of Application Traffic Management solutions, is introducing version 3.0 of ReportCenter, a powerful tool that delivers unmatched visibility into the performance of application traffic across corporate WAN and Internet links.

ReportCenter is unique in the industry because of its ability to provide both a "macro" and "micro" view of WAN and Internet application performance. For example, ReportCenter offers a system-wide view of all application-level traffic aggregated across the global enterprise and provides a granular view into specific applications, users and links. With version 3.0, ReportCenter extends its rich set of data to assist IT organisations in MPLS service sizing and management and monitoring critical VoIP performance variables.

"Enterprise users are more than ever requiring strong reporting capabilities at the application and network services levels to better manage business level agreements," said Stephen Elliot, senior analyst at IDC. "Reporting capabilities are enabling enterprises to better analyse and optimise next-generation network services thorough MPLS and VoIP strategies."

When carriers offer MPLS-enabled services, customers can request specific classes of service for specific traffic types, each with its own guaranteed level of performance across carrier MPLS networks. Unfortunately, customers often do not know the bandwidth and response time required for a specific traffic type -- such as SAP, for example. This makes it difficult to determine the best MPLS service class for that application.

ReportCenter provides a granular view of application traffic, which enables business organisations to prepare for MPLS by determining specific bandwidth and response time requirements for SAP and other critical applications. Customers can then map those requirements to appropriate classes of MPLS services. In addition, ReportCenter allows customers to actively monitor their WAN links to compare the performance of applications across different classes of MPLS service. Together, these capabilities help IT organisations gain the greatest efficiency and value from their MPLS service investments.

For customers deploying VoIP across a converged IP infrastructure, optimal, reliable performance is imperative. ReportCenter helps address this requirement by providing a real-time view into network latency, jitter and packet loss -- three key variables that can impact voice quality and reliability. With this information, combined with Packeteer's ability to classify and control VoIP protocols and traffic, customers can use the Packeteer Application Traffic Management system to apply dynamic bandwidth management policies, monitor call quality and ensure a consistent level of VoIP performance.

In addition to its support for MPLS and VoIP network environments, ReportCenter 3.0 works in conjunction with distributed Packeteer Application Traffic Management appliances to give customers a powerful platform for enterprise-wide collection, analysis and real-time reporting of application and network performance information across all WAN links. ReportCenter provides a broad range of custom reporting options that provides visibility into application traffic classes, WAN link utilisation, application response time, compression savings and more -- based on data associated with top talkers, top pairs, top applications and other critical performance metrics.

ReportCenter 3.0 is available in Q3 2004, with software license pricing starting at $US10,000.
