Adaptec First to Ship RAID On Chip (ROC) Controller Solutions with the Industry’s Most Advanced Data Protection Software for Systems with the New Intel Platform

Sydney, Australia – May 26, 2006 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced that its RAID technology, including the industry’s first ROC solutions, has been optimised and tested for compatibility with the new Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® processors. In extensive testing, Adaptec SCSI, Serial ATA II (SATA II) and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) controller technology has been proven to increase I/O subsystem performance on systems built with the new Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® processor. Adaptec’s advanced RAID technology coupled with Intel’s latest processor enables system builders and end users to build reliable, high performance server and storage solutions with a choice of SCSI, SATA or SAS disk drives.

“The new Intel® Xeon® processor looks to be an excellent choice for customers whose applications require more performance or for companies that may want to take advantage of virtualisation technologies,” said Tim Connolly, vice president of marketing for the Adaptec Data Protection Solutions group. “When combined with a high-performance Adaptec RAID controller for the SCSI, SATA or SAS interface, customers get a top performer that also delivers the industry’s most advanced data protection.”

“Intel’s new Dual-Core Xeon® processors offer a high performance platform for controller vendors such as Adaptec’s advanced RAID technology,” said Jim Pappas, director of initiative marketing for Intel Corporation. “Testing of the PCIe solution and optimisation work on the 64-bit Xeon platform with RAID software from companies such as Adaptec ensure that customers win with a reliable, high performance solution.”
