Trend Micro has launched a hosted email service for managing inbox security.
Resellers would be able to use an online management console to manage the service on behalf of customers, product and marketing manager for SMB, Ben Guthrie, said. Other services they could provide included compiling reports, implementing group or user-specific rules, or managing corporate compliance.
The service was the next step in the vendor's campaign to meet specific SMB customer needs, according to Guthrie. It follows on from the security software vendor's recent management restructure into customer segments and ties in with the release of its SMB messaging tools.
"SMBs have core competencies around whatever generates revenue but they don't have investment in IT administration," he said. "They want whatever makes it simple and reliable so they can set and forget."
The email security service can be accessed via a Web console. Users can opt to manage content filtering settings or change email policies, as well as view what traffic is being blocked.
Three iterations of the service are now available: a basic anti-spam service including reports and message tracking; basic email security service incorporating anti-spam, antivirus and malicious code security; and extended email security, which combines a basic service with content filtering and policy management via a remote console.
Guthrie said it would initially offer the services to customers via a 30-day trial on its website. Those interested in signing up would then be transferred to channel partners via distribution.
