Nortel is encouraging partners to take WLAN and voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) into the SMB and enterprise markets. It has earmarked healthcare, hospitality, education and manufacturing as key verticals.
The networking vendor will hold training sessions for its traditional data and voice partners across the country during July. Technical training will also be available, Asia-Pacific product and solutions marketing manager, Adam Kleemeyer, said.
Part of the Office Anywhere portfolio, Nortel's new WLAN product, the 2300 series, supports real-time multimedia communications. The VoWLAN component is a combination of two rapidly growing technologies: WLAN and IP telephony.
"There's significant interest in the healthcare market," Kleemeyer said. "The technology simplifies access to patient information, and WLAN security is guaranteeing confidentiality.
"In hospitality, the technology is offering a single, converged network; while in manufacturing it is improving shop floor communications and workflow efficiency."
Through its distribution partners, LAN Systems and Anixter, Nortel is offering five bundles to partners. Resellers can pitch a combination of the WLAN 2300 series access points, WLAN management software and a line of security switches.
