TodayTech has joined Adelaide-based Legend Corporation as a distributor of Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) hard drives.
TodayTech managing director, Jack Zhong, said the agreement would see the Sydney-based distributor immediately begin using 3.5-inch Hitachi drives in its products where, previously, it had been using a variety of different brands.
Notably, Zhong said TodayTech would also start to use 2.5-inch Hitachi drives in its mobile products. It had previously used Fujitsu storage.
"We are very excited about being onboard and it shows our resellers that TodayTech is expanding," he said. "Our vendors also see that we're committed to distribution and making comprehensive offerings available."
TodayTech, which claims more than 5000 resellers in Australia, has also joined Hitachi's Fast & Flexible Warranty Program. The scheme is designed for the storage vendor's distributors to respond to warranty support queries from resellers.
The dual distribution model would enable HGST to work with system integrators across both AMD and Intel platforms, regional channel manager, Karthik Laxman, said. TodayTech is an Intel-oriented distributor. The decision followed the opening of HGST's new production facility in Shenzhen, China.
"Previously we were a boutique player, but with the new facility we now have the capability and capacity for sweet spot products which for us today, are 80GB drives," he said.
