Systems integrator Gen-i’s Australian arm is making great inroads in the local market, logging 11 new projects since the start of the year, of which five are new customers.
Gen-i New Zealand boss, Garth Biggs, said the company was looking at strong results this year. The Australian wins had contributed to this.
“We’ve had lots of medium size jobs in Australia, which is great as that is the way we prove ourselves, by going and doing projects and … then we get a bigger piece [of the market],” he said. “It’s really shaping up to be a good year in Australia, if indications so far are anything to go by.”
Biggs would not reveal financial results as yet.
Gen-i Australia’s CEO and IT veteran, Tim Ward, is bullish about the Australian market and the company’s future growth opportunities.
He would not name the organisations or new customers the company had worked with this year.
“We’ve won several quite significant Citrix deployments and Microsoft Active Directory [for] support, design and implementation projects,” Ward said. The property development, construction, transport and travel industries had been good for Gen-i, Biggs said.
“Also, the insurance sector is one we’ve been very successful in of late,” he said. The new projects showed that Gen-i’s growth strategy was on track.
“Gen-i made the decision around mid-2003 to focus on Australia as that is where the major growth opportunity for the company is, and part of that was appointing a chief executive to drive the next phase of growth,” he said.
Ward was appointed CEO of Gen-i’s Australian operations at the end of 2003.
“The first step was to focus on where we had been successful in niche areas such as Microsoft, Citrix and procurement,” Ward said.
He aimed to double staff numbers within the next six months across the integrator’s Melbourne and Sydney bases.
Gen-i was named Citrix Solution Provider of the Year for Victoria and Tasmania at the recent Citrix Australia and New Zealand iForum.
