Netgear partners with Cirrus to service regional VoIP market

<p>NETGEAR (Nasdaq: NTGR), a leading provider of easy-to-use, high-performance networking products has partnered with regional telecommunications carrier Cirrus Communications and broadband service provider Broadband Phone to launch a wholesale Voice-over-IP (VoIP) product for regional customers.</p>
<p>Cirrus Communications services clients on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and the Central Coast and Central West of New South Wales. The carrier is expanding rapidly and has plans to move into three more territories by the end of April.</p>
<p>“Cirrus Communications has a very strong profile in the regional telecommunications market,” said Ryan Parker, Director of Partnerships and Services at NETGEAR. “This partnership provides customers with an all-in-one VoIP solution -- bundling broadband access with the required hardware and the telecommunications connection. The end product is easy to install, reduces reliance on a fixed line and most importantly, is a great value-for-money product which reduces call costs.”</p>
<p>Dr Eric Heyde, CEO of Cirrus Communications said “the biggest issue for telecommunications consumers living in regional areas is cost. Regional customers generally make more STD and mobile phone calls than city dwellers and subsequently have larger phone bills. VoIP frees-up consumers in terms of competitive choice and offers them a cheaper alternative to current fixed-line services. Cirrus Communications has been monitoring the rising popularity of VoIP and was very keen to offer its customers this new technology -- we just had to find the right partners to ensure our customers would get a high-quality service.”</p>
<p>Cirrus Communications has called its new VoIP service KISS -- Keeping It So Simple. “VoIP provides customers with a very powerful tool which the every-day consumer can understand and easily implement in their home,” explained Heyde.</p>
<p>The Cirrus Communications product offers free calls between KISS customers and local, intercity or interstate calls for $0.10 fixed rate untimed. Mobile calls are charged at $0.29 per minute and international rates range from $0.035 a minute.</p>
