Wireless specialist distributor, Integrity Data Systems, has picked up rights to Motorola's point to multi-point product range, Canopy. The news comes as the company rebrands under the TR Telecom masthead.
Director, Ross Chiswell, said the contract was an extension of a value-added reseller arrangement between its parent company, TechRentals (TR) Corporation, and Motorola. TR Corporation's acquisition of IDS had been the catalyst for the switch to distributor status.
TR Telecom will join existing local Canopy distributors, Lan 1 and Wireless Technology.
"Most of TR's relationships that existed were around carriers. We are now talking to the channel about doing projects with them using Canopy," he said. For example, the last mile products were suitable for enterprises with multiple sites, such as local councils.
Chiswell said it would bundle Canopy with some of its back-haul and pipe buildings technologies.
The products would be available to integration partners. TR Telecom would also continue to supply the product direct to its key carrier and ISP customers. The distributor is also planning to run reseller roadshows in the coming months.
IDS was acquired by TR Corporation in November after being forced into voluntary administration. Chiswell said IDS, along with TR's customer facing division, BearCom, and its wireless broadband team were now being rolled together under the TR Telecom brand. The combined division would continue to maintain its distribution focus, as well as support the carrier market.
Despite having previously suffered major setbacks in it attempts to sustain a wireless specialist model, Chiswell insisted there were new market opportunities emerging.
"Down the track we will see new levels of integrators come into the channel," he said. "Those now using IP-based camera technologies for security will come into our market. This will see convergence from another angle. Whether it's cable or wireless, the marketplace is moving towards using Ethernet as the pipe, and that is becoming an opportunity for us."
