Iona Technologies' Orbix object request broker will soon be coupled with Symantec's Visual Cafe Enterprise, giving Java developers a way to create applications and more easily extend them across the enterprise.
The tight integration between the two product families means that applications built with Visual Cafe will leverage the CORBA-based transactions, security, and systems management in Orbix and OrbixWeb, the companies announced last month.
As soon as this year, Visual Cafe Enterprise Suite will include extensions for Orbix, among the most popular CORBA products. That will integrate Iona's interoperability services into the Symantec Java development package in a way that is largely invisible to developers using the CORBA or Remote Method Invocation object communication methods, the companies said.
Visual Cafe Enterprise Suite, which arrived last quarter, includes such features as wizards that help generate client and server code for CORBA applications.
The pairing of the two products is expected to allow developers to build large, scalable systems that use CORBA services across such server platforms as Windows NT, Unix, and mainframes, the companies said.
