Lako Pacific has won back sole distribution rights to Ulead's educational video editing and imaging software.
The multimedia distributor's CEO, Evan Kourambas, said it was originally appointed as the local supplier of Ulead's complete range of consumer and educational software several years ago. However, it lost the education range when the vendor was acquired by Intervideo last year.
Distribution of the academic products was awarded to local start-up, Acorn Group, which was established specifically for the job. The partnership lasted 12 months.
"Ulead came back to us and asked if we were still interested," Kourambas said. "Acorn didn't have the coverage to represent a vendor like Ulead even in the smaller education business."
As well as rounding out its Ulead portfolio, Kourambas said the education range tied into its existing stable of video editing and imaging software from Pinnacle. Lako planned to target specialist education resellers.
"We'd always done the retail stuff, so we will be putting the academic products back into stores like Harvey Norman, City Software and Harris Technology," he said.
The software would also be available to its sub distributors - J Mills in WA, Multimedia Technology in NSW/Victoria and HiTech in SA.
