Intel has struck an OEM partnership with EMC to give its resellers and distributors access to storage hardware for SMBs.
Intel has announced it will now provide partners with EMC's Clariion AX150 product. Rebadged as the Intel SSR212PP Storage System, the SAN holds up to 12 serial ATA II disk drives in a 2U rack mountable enclosure and will be available from May.
EMC partner and alliances manager, David Henderson, said the deal would see its products pushed into a difficult market segment. He said the relationship wouldn't affect existing AX150 sales with its sole SMB-oriented distributor, LAN Systems.
"When it comes to technology like SANs, the more acceptance we have of the concept, the better it is for all our partners," Henderson said.
"One of the greatest advantages of the relationship with Intel is that it gives us access to [the SMB] market segment that has been exceedingly difficult for EMC to crack. We currently have a single point of entry into that market and I'm a firm believer that that the more seeds you plant, the better it is for everybody."
Concurring with Henderson's assessment, LAN Systems national sales manager, Leigh Howard, said the arrival of the rebadged unit via Intel wasn't an area of concern.
"We don't see [the SSR212PP] impacting our channel at all - we're developing our own channel with EMC for the AX150," he said.
